You have just gone through a major milestone in your life. You just gave birth! Congratulations! Whether you gave birth a week ago or a month ago we still need to talk about getting your body back on track. I am not talking about working out and losing the last of the baby weight, I am talking about replenishing your body with the good stuff it may need. Supplements or vitamins whichever you want to call it is a must in my opinion and we are going to talk about some today.
After each one of my pregnancies I made sure to take supplements to replenish my body. Prenatal vitamins being one of them because I was nursing and I knew my baby would get what nutrients he needed.
Vitamins and Supplements for Post Pregnancy
You may also be asking yourself how would you know what brand(s) to purchase and I will recommend the brand(s) that I trust. From the beginning I’m sure not only myself but a lot of others have gone with the known brand Natures Made and many others you can find locally. Natures Made is trustworthy and USP verified. However; lately my obsession has been with a new company that I have come across on Amazon called NutraChamps.

After looking for the vitamin Rhodiola I came across their vitamins. I immediately looked into the company along with their reviews on Amazon. The reviews were great; reviews are something that I always make sure to look over to get a good sense of the product, company, and customer service. Their company is GMP certified, made here in the USA, and they are sure to have all of their products tested by a third party. NutraChamps is now a staple in our home. We continue to order a variety of vitamins/supplements from NutraChamps with no regrets.

What vitamins and supplements are necessary postpartum?
There are plenty of vitamins that a woman can take after birth. Different vitamins help with different deficiencies. So don’t be turned off when you are left with a handful of vitamins to take daily. Below are just some of the top vitamins women can take after giving birth. If you have talked to your doctor or have done some research yourself you will notice that the list below are the more common vitamins taken by women for top deficiencies or issues known.
-
Vitamin D
If you found that you were deficient in vitamin D while you were pregnant there is a good chance that you will be after you give birth. Therefor, you will need to continue to take vitamin D. It is also a good idea to take the vitamin when you are breastfeeding as well since it will be healthy for the baby as well. And yes, it is completely safe for you and your baby by nursing.
According to the American Pregnancy Association “It is unlikely your prenatal vitamin provides enough vitamin D. A recent study found women taking 4,000 IU of vitamin D daily had the greatest benefits in preventing preterm labor/births and infections.”

B Vitamins
B vitamins are good during pregnancy as they help with needed energy that can deplete during your pregnancy. Vitamin B is also good to minimize the risk of some birth defects. B vitamins come in a different types. You can find B6, B9, and B12 which are all good for pregnancies.

Iron
Iron is a good one that I personally know all too well. Before even getting pregnant I found myself deficient in iron or what you may know or heard of as being anemic. Iron is responsible for moving oxygen from your lungs to the rest of your body. When you are anemic you are deficient in iron and feel tired and sometimes shortness of breath.
-
Fenugreek
Fenugreek is said to help with a list of health issues. But in our case Fenugreek is said to be great for breastfeeding as it helps milk production. There is a wide range of products advertised to pregnant women. You can take Fenugreek by capsules, powdered drink mix, or even by tea.

Folic Acid
It is recommended to start taking a prenatal vitamin that contains Folic Acid before you start to conceive. Folic Acid helps with preventing major birth defects within your baby brain and spinal cord. It can also be taken after you give birth as well as the baby can still benefit from it while nursing.
Do you still need to take prenatal vitamins after pregnancy?
Some may ask if you should still take prenatal vitamins after you have given birth and the answer is yes. Especially if you choose to nurse your baby. Taking them still provides the nutrients needed for your babys growth. Not only does your baby need it but it is still good for you to have as you need to replenish your nutrients after losing some while giving birth.
How long should you take prenatal vitamins after giving birth?
After you have given birth it is recommended to continue taking your prenatal vitamins for at least four to six weeks after giving birth or until you stop breastfeeding your baby. This is to protect you and baby from nutrient depletion.
Can you take vitamin C after giving birth?
Yes, you can take vitamin C after giving birth but there should be a tolerable intake amount as too much vitamin C can cause issues for you and your newborn baby. This is something that you should also talk to your doctor about. The daily amount shouldn’t be more than 120 mg a day. It is also okay to take while breastfeeding.
